Gimp move selection of a layer1/3/2024 ![]() As you can see, the small icons let you move a whole layer, a selection or a path make sure to select the 'layer' icon then, you have two options, to manually pick the layer that you want to move, or to move the currently. If you if you had a defined set of movements you could code them as drop-down values - either for x and y independently or a single box that gave the x/y offsets. First of all, push M to select the 'move' command (or just pick it from the toolbox), then in the 'tool options' panel, choose the proper options. If the movement was always the same you could set this as the default values of the parameters. A simple Script-Fu script with two parameters to specify the offset and then call the above function would be one answer. This function takes an ITEM and two FLOATs - x offset and y offset. You need to click and drag for the move operation, do not release the mouse. Step 13: Select another image layer and repeat the same steps of scaling and moving for the second image. Release the mouse and you return to the original active layer, as you found. Here is a gif of the problem: I would greatly appreciate. I press M but I also try clicking the Move tool on the left-hand panel/window. I have the layer selected, and it is not locked. Basically I am not able to move this image. Step 4: If asked to convert to RGB Working space, then convert it. Hello, I tried searching for a solution but nothing I found has worked yet. If you have used a recent image, then it will show in the recently used section. Step 3: Then navigate to the downloaded image and open it in GIMP. The function gimp-item-transform-translate was added in GIMP 2.10. With the move tool toggle in Pick a layer or guide mode Click in the canvas and the layer with the first solid pixel under the cursor becomes active, as you found. Step 2: Let’s start by opening an image by going in the File menu, then open or press Ctrl + O. In the dialog box that appears, select 'Move the active layer'. ![]() You can do this by: 1) selecting the move tool, and 2) in the menu bar, navigating to Windows Dockable Dialogs Tool Options. My current workaround is to fill a rectangular selection around the sprite with cyan and line it up visually, but that's really clunky. Then select the layer you want from the Layers dialog and move it around as you like. The resolution is too high to just spam the arrow. I cant do this visually, because the layers have transparency, the selections Im working with dont line up the same way with the guides. I haven't found anything obvious in the documentation or the various tool options in Gimp. Im using Gimp to do spritesheets, and Id love a way to move a selection by a given number of pixels along an axis E.G. Or click somewhere off the layers and drag a selection rectangle around them. The resolution is too high to just spam the arrow keys. Press and hold the Shift key while clicking on the layers in the canvas. ![]() I can't do this visually, because the layers have transparency, the selections I'm working with don't line up the same way with the guides.
